Tuned stairway

Year: 2006

Authorship: Andy Cameron (UK), Hans Raber (Austria), Federico Urdaneta (Colombia), Daniel Hirshmann (South Africa), Carlo Zoratti (Italy)

A playful musical experience conceived especially for the Pompidou Centre that turns a stairway into a musical instrument. Visitors create their own musical composition depending on how they go up or down the stairs.

The “Tuned Stairway” lets you make music with your feet. The “Tuned Stairway” stems from the tradition of ‘enhanced space’ where technology is used to give additional meaning to a real space rather than create a fictitious space, which is the concept of virtual reality. It’s also a way of combining technology and mechanics with human reactions.
