FABRICA PRODUCES THE NEW RAE SPOON MUSIC VIDEO
The Canadian transgender singer, in Italy for the first time, entrusts the production of his new video clip to Fabrica

FABRICA, March 2012. Ocean Blue is the title of the video clip produced entirely by Fabrica, launched worldwide to promote Rae Spoon's latest work, I Can’t Keep All Of Our Secrets.

Ocean Blue draws freely upon Thomas Mann's story Death in Venice, subsequently adapted for cinema by Luchino Visconti. It tells the tale of Gustav von Aschenbach, a physically frail and spiritually restless old musician, and his obsession with the disarming beauty of the young Tadzio, whom he met during a holiday on the Venice Lido.

Hence Fabrica and Rae Spoon have chosen Venice and its artistic and historic atmosphere for the production of this new audio-visual work. The video clip explores the relationship between life and death, sickness and health, and water becomes both a disturbing element and a symbol of rejuvenation. Ocean Blue brings together Rae Spoon, one of the most interesting artists on the Canadian musical scene, and Fabrica, Benetton Group's creative laboratory; they share a strong penchant for experimentation and the promotion of social equality through their projects.

Ocean Blue is directed by Chelsea McMullan, at that time resident of the Video department at Fabrica. During her time with Fabrica, Chelsea has created a number of short documentaries, including Deragliamenti, whichportrays Milo Manara's experience of working with Federico Fellini to transform the screenplay of the film Il Viaggio di Mastorna detto Fernet into a comic strip. Deragliamenti, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2011, recently nominated for a Genie Award for Best Short Documentary, continues to be well-received in the international film festival circuit.

Rae Spoon is a subversive, transgender, folk/indie Canadian singer-songwriter. Their sixth album, I Can’t Keep All Of Our Secrets, is a brilliant exploration of the experience of death and suffering, knowingly tied into captivating dance rhythms. Their previous album, Love Is A Hunter (2010) centred around love and the search for belonging within a community; it received enthusiastic reviews from numerous magazines, including Eye Weekly, The Globe and Mail. Rolling Stone described it as one of the ten best Canadian albums of the year.
